Former Manchester United midfielder, Roy Keane has slammed Fred and Scott McTominay, saying the duo are not good enough to play for the club.

Manchester United suffered a shock defeat to Brighton in the opening day of the Premier League on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s side went into half-time 2-0 down, with Pascal Gross netting a brace for the visitors.

United tried to come back into the game, forcing an own goal through Alexis Mac Allister, but the visiting team kept their heads down and finished victorious.

Fred and Scott McTominay started in central midfield for the Red Devils and new signing, Christian Eriksen played as a false nine up top but had to reshuffle his line-up in the second half.

Fred was later replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo, who went up top with Eriksen dropping deeper.

Keane feels neither player is good enough to be starting for United if the club have aspirations of challenging for silverware.

“The [lack of] decision-making and football intelligence from midfield, particularly Fred.

“I’ve been going on about it for a long time – Fred and McTominay are not good enough. They won’t get Man United back competing at the top. We see it week in, week out. They’re not up to it,” he told Sky Sports.
