Former Premier League star, Jermaine Jenas has told Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand that Arsenal are still far ahead of the Red Devils.
This was in response to Ferdinand’s claim that Manchester United will finish the season a happier team, having won the Carabao Cup in Erik ten Hag’s first season as manager.
While on the other hand, Arsenal have crashed out of all the cups and have been locked in a Premier League title battle with Manchester City.
The Gunners, who were previously eight points clear at the top of the table, are now five points above Man City, who have two games in hand. It means the Gunners may end in the second place at the end of the season,
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City host Arsenal at the Etihad on Wednesday in a game that could be a decider.
And for this reason, Ferdinand believes that Manchester United already have something to hold their hands on while Arsenal may finish second without a trophy to show for their fine run.
Jenas told BT Sport, “I understand Ferdinand’s view. I get where he’s coming from and I think most fans would agree because it’s about silverware and winning things, the only mark I would put against it is where Man Utd will be next year and what they have to do to get there, and where Arsenal will be next year.
“In terms of the development of Man Utd and the development of Arsenal, I would say that Arsenal are way ahead with where they want to be for next year.
“If they finish second it will be a massive disappointment but everything they will have learnt… the team, the nucleus that is already there, if they add to that [in the summer] that will put them way ahead of Man Utd.”
