Newcastle United revived their season with a powerful 2-0 win over Chelsea, knocking out last year’so Carabao Cup finalists.
The match at St. James’ Park took a turning point for the hosts in a quick three-minute span during the first half.
Alexander Isak scored the opener in the 23rd minute after capitalizing on a turnover near Chelsea’s box, firing in a clean strike.
Just three minutes later, Isak’s cross led to an own goal by Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, doubling Newcastle’s lead.
Chelsea tried to fight back early in the game, but struggled to break down Newcastle’s defense.
Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke made strong attempts in the second half, but Newcastle’s kept off any threat, thanks to Lloyd Kelly.
Despite Chelsea’s possession and multiple attempts, Newcastle held firm, with Sean Longstaff even having a goal disallowed for offside in the 74th minute.
