Liverpool escaped a major scare against Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final, securing a 2-1 win at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men turned the table with goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo, giving them the edge as they head into the second encounter.
Fulham came close to causing an upset with an initial lead in the first half, courtesy of Willian’s 19 minutes opener.
However, Curtis Jones levelled the score with a deflected shot, just minutes after the hour mark in the second half.
Shortly after, Cody Gakpo capitalized on an opportunity created by Darwin Nunez to put Liverpool ahead.
Meanwhile, Fulham boss Marco Silva appeared frustrated with his side’s missed opportunities, particularly when Bobby Decordova-Reid failed to capitalize on a scoring chance.
While Liverpool faced the threat of having several of their key players out due to injuries, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah in the Africa Cup of Nations, they managed to maintain their lead for the remainder of the game.
