Joshua Zirkzee made a dream debut for Manchester United, coming off the bench to score a crucial late goal in their Premier League opener.
The £36.5 million signing from Bologna was introduced as a 60th-minute substitute with the game deadlocked and chances unconverted by Bruno Fernandes.
Despite dominating the game, the Red Devils struggled to break through, with Fernandes missing two of their best opportunities.
However, Zirkzee delivered when it mattered most. In the 87th minute, a brilliant move began deep in United’s half, leading to Casemiro feeding Alejandro Garnacho on the right wing.
Garnacho’s low cross found Zirkzee, who stretched out to flick the ball into the net with his left foot, to the delight of United fans.
It was a relief for manager Erik ten Hag, who had faced growing pressure as United seemed destined for a frustrating draw in the clash.
Meanwhile, Fulham had their chances, with Adama Traore making dangerous runs on the wing, but failed to make any meaningful impact.
Tete also had a bicycle kick saved by Andre Onana in the second half.
