An abroad-based Nigerian lady has opened up about her frustrations with job hunting, highlighting the shege involved in trying to find work overseas compared to Nigeria.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she revealed how much she misses the simpler work process back home, where job opportunities often felt more accessible.
According to her, in Nigeria, employers sometimes make quick decisions based on connections, and the hiring process can be straightforward.
In her words, she said:
“I miss Nigeria oo. You will just hear, ‘Go and resume there on Monday.’ Where will you get that here?”
In contrast, securing jobs in the UK is far more challenging. Even basic roles demand years of experience that often seem impossible to meet.
“Here in the UK, they will tell you to have 10 years’ experience for a cleaning job,” she added.
Her story has sparked conversations among Nigerians abroad, with many agreeing that job hunting back home can feel easier, while others disagreed.
Social media users shared relatable experiences, comparing the struggles of finding work in Nigeria and overseas.
One user wrote, “If this is true, pack your bags and come home.” Another added, “This is a pure lie; you all won’t stop!”

“Nothing will prepare you for the shege you’ll face in the UK, especially when job hunting. I miss Nigeria; someone would have told me to go to a company and resume the following week. Here in the UK, they’re asking for 10 years of experience for a cleaning job.”
