Liverpool advanced to the FA Cup fifth round with a 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield, as Mohamed Salah delivered a decisive second-half display.

Arne Slot’s side were subdued in the opening period, appearing to feel the effects of their midweek league fixture.

Despite that, they led at the break after Curtis Jones finished from close range following a cross by Milos Kerkez.

Brighton created openings of their own in the first half but were unable to capitalise, leaving Liverpool to regroup with a narrow advantage.

Salah sparks second-half lift

Liverpool emerged with greater urgency after the interval, and Salah was central to the shift in tempo.

The forward produced a deft touch to set up Dominik Szoboszlai, who converted for his 10th goal of the season to double the lead.

Salah then sealed the result from the penalty spot. After winning the spot-kick with a driving run into the area, he calmly converted to make it 3-0 and effectively end the contest.

The goal prompted a standing ovation from the Anfield crowd, recognising the impact of a player who has endured an inconsistent campaign by his own high standards.

Encouraging signs for Slot

While the performance was not without flaws, Liverpool’s control in the second half and a clean sheet represented tangible progress.

Brighton had spells of pressure but lacked the precision required to alter the outcome..
