Chelsea were comprehensively eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after a 3-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain sealed an 8-2 aggregate loss in their round-of-16 tie.
The result marks one of Chelsea’s heaviest defeats in European competition, as PSG delivered a clinical performance at Stamford Bridge to end the contest early.
Fast start leaves Chelsea with no way back
PSG wasted no time asserting control, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opening the scoring in the sixth minute after capitalising on hesitant defending.
The visitors doubled their advantage just eight minutes later when Bradley Barcola finished superbly, effectively putting the tie beyond Chelsea before the midway point of the first half.
Despite efforts from Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto and Trevoh Chalobah, the hosts were unable to respond, while PSG remained dangerous on the counter.
Chelsea struggle despite efforts
Chelsea continued to create chances through Joao Pedro and Jorrel Hato, but defensive lapses and midfield turnovers proved costly.
Head coach Liam Rosenior made changes at half-time and later withdrew key players, signalling the scale of the challenge facing his side.
PSG maintained control and limited Chelsea’s attacking threat, while continuing to exploit space on the break.
Mayulu adds gloss as PSG cruise through
Substitute Senny Mayulu completed the scoring with a composed finish late in the second half, extending PSG’s dominance across both legs.
Chelsea’s night worsened further when Chalobah was forced off with an ankle injury, leaving the hosts to finish the match with 10 men.
PSG progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of the tie between Liverpool and Galatasaray, while Chelsea exit the competition after a heavy and sobering defeat.
