A governorship aspirant in Benue State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Terwase Tortiv-Ato, has expressed confidence that the party is in the best position to win the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Ato stated this while speaking with journalists at his residence in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
He said the PDP remains one of the most stable political platforms in the state and continues to enjoy strong grassroots support across many communities.
According to him, the structure and unity within the party have made it a strong political force ahead of the next general elections.
“The PDP remains the most stable political party in Benue State today. The party is united and deeply rooted at the grassroots, and that gives us a strong advantage as we move towards the 2027 elections,” he said.
The governorship hopeful also commended some key leaders of the party for their roles in strengthening unity within the PDP in the state.
He specifically praised the immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, who is also a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, as well as the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, and the Benue State PDP Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji.
Ato said their leadership and commitment have helped to strengthen the party’s structure and widen its support base across the state.
According to him, their collective efforts had made the PDP more formidable, more acceptable to the electorate, and better positioned to reclaim political leadership in the state
Ato urged voters in the state to carefully evaluate candidates before giving them their support.
He advised the electorate to look beyond party loyalty and ask serious questions about the plans and capacity of those seeking public office.
“People should ask tough questions when politicians come seeking their votes. They should ask how those promises will be funded and demand clear commitments. Leaders should be held accountable for what they promise,” he said.
Ato further stated that leadership built on transparency, responsibility and service to the people would help rebuild public trust in government and promote development across Benue State.
